WILLEMSTAD–The man sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2013 murder of then PS-leader and parliamentarian Helmin Magno Wiels in Curaçao has been transferred from the maximum security prison in Vught, the Netherlands to Bonaire. Elvis “Monster” Kuwas (40) was filmed as he stepped off the plane handcuffed at Flamingo Airport.
The convicted triggerman in the “Magnus” case was led by heavily armed policemen with bullet proof vests and accompanied by a group of plainclothes detectives.
The transfer clearly has to do with the “Maximus” trial starting today, Wednesday, in Curaçao, with Kuwas expected to testify. It concerns the probe into the intellectual authors of the paid assassination.
Nini Fonseca
Kuwas would have indicated that he wants to make a statement. His life sentence was confirmed by the High Court in The Hague and has become irrevocable.
For now Maximus is focussing on the man who is seen by the prosecution as the link between the executors and those who ordered the killing of Wiels. It regards Burney “Nini” Fonseca, who is serving time in the Netherlands on unrelated drugs and money laundering charges. He has opted to stay there and attend the proceedings via video conference.
Prosecutor Gert Rip did not want to reveal which witnesses are to be heard during the trial.
