MARIGOT—The island’s top female cyclists will compete this weekend in Martinique’s Grand Prix Feminin, the second time St. Martin has sent a team to the event.
The Association Sportif de Marigot (ASM) team comprises Murielle Lancien-Paul, Susy Piscione, Sandra Garnier and Annelies Starreveld. Going along as coaches are Patricio “Blade” Carty and Romeo Lake.
The three-stage race starts with a 74K leg in Saint Laurent followed by a 7.8K time trial on Sunday morning. The third stage is a 58.4K starting Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph.
The same team competed in the event last year with Liesbeth De Falco and did well, finishing in the top ten. Annelies finished fifth overall. Liesbeth was off island and not able to make the team this time around.
“We will be smarter this year as we know what to expect now,” commented Susy. “There were some big climbs last year. This year the distances are longer but let’s hope we don’t have longer distances and big climbs.”
The Grand Prix is an exclusive race for female riders in the French islands.
