PORT–St. Maarten is one of the stops for a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Getaways Cruise in April. The cruise, aboard Celebrity Silhouette, is the first organised by United States-based CruiseOne and Dream Vacations. The ship departs from Port Everglades on April 8.
The LGBT Getaways Cruise will also stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas. The group will experience an exclusive shore excursion with Resort for a Day and will participate in a wine-tasting and themed cocktail parties throughout the week.
The LGBT Getaways Cruise was launched in response to the demand from consumers and travel agents for this niche group that wants a lifestyle vacation experience in a more traditional and sophisticated atmosphere, said Drew Daly, general manager of network engagement and performance for Cruises Inc., Cruise One and Dream Vacations.
Celebrity Cruises has always been an advocate for the LGBT community “so it was a no-brainer to partner with them on this group cruise, which has already been met with positive response,” he said.
Dream Vacations franchise owner and member of the organisation’s advisory council Trapper Martin said, “So many people want an experience that isn’t mass market, but rather smaller groups of people traveling together, and we hope to start something the market can be proud of in the coming years.”
The cruise in April is not the first LGBT exclusive sailing to visit St. Maarten. Other ships have brought LGBT groups to the country over the years.
