PHILIPSBURG–Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL) honoured 37 selected “cultural icons” on Monday, November 4, as part of its Cultural Heritage Week, which ran until Saturday, November 9.

According to PJL, these cultural icons were brought together “to showcase their talents and their work done for the community of St. Maarten.” The event paid tribute to artists, poets, musicians, storytellers and others whom PJL deemed to have contributed to St. Maarten and its way of life.

The event’s objective was to remind persons of St. Maarten’s shared and past heritage, said PJL. A carrousel with pictures of all the selected icons will be displayed at PJL.

Some of the selected icons were Ruby Bute, Connis Vanterpool, Alberto Arrindell – also known as “Fish the Mega Boss”, Fabian Badejo and Esther Narcisco.

PJL said it will continue to organise events like this to “stimulate the imagination and recognise those who have contributed to the rich heritage and culture of St. Maarten.”
