“Ms. Francis is a very passionate, dedicated and responsible coordinator that goes beyond her call of duty,” said the club in a press release on Thursday. “These eye glasses will not only benefit her as an individual, but also it assists her in her daily life. Her family will also benefit because of her improved sight as she will be able to provide for them.”

Vision is one of Lions Club International’s core areas.

St. Maarten Lions Club has conducted several vision programmes over its 50-year existence, with the latest being “Eyes for a Brighter Future.” This project started in 2017 under then-club president Davey Woods and resulted in 3,000 of the country’s primary school pupils receiving free eye exams, with some even getting free glasses on the spot.

“Lions will continue in the years ahead with aiding persons with their sight and helping to prevent blindness as much as possible,” said the club.
