PHILIPSBURG–In a press release from NV GEBE on Tuesday evening, the company apologised to those in the community who were inconvenienced and affected during the country-wide blackout that occurred around 10:55pm Sunday.
GEBE officials stated that one of its large engines experienced a failure due to low engine cooling water pressure. Each engine is equipped with sensors to protect it from damage and as a result of the low cooling water pressure the sensors were activated after which the plant then experienced a cascading effect shutting down all units.
Engineers and technicians at the power plant went into immediate action to rectify the problem. Power was restored to the Cay Hill area first with all other areas being restored before 1:02am.
