Lumpsum school subsidy focus of Parliament today | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Parliament sits in an urgent plenary session today, Monday, with Education Minister Wycliffe Smith on the topic of lumpsum subsidies for school boards. The meeting in Parliament House starts at 2:00pm.

The urgent meeting was requested by National Alliance (NA) MPs Silveria Jacobs, Christophe Emmanuel and Egbert Doran. They want to focus on the effects of the lumpsum subsidies for school boards especially after boards “have clearly expressed that lower student numbers resulting in lower subsidies threatens their financial position and negatively affects quality education in their schools.”

The parliamentary session is open to the public and will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 115, SXM GOV radio 107.9FM, Pearl Radio 98.1FM,
