MARIGOT–Lycée Robert Weinum in Cite Scolaire, La Savane, recently held a graduation ceremony for students who had obtained associate degrees and for those who passed their Baccalaureate.
There were 23 students who passed their Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS). Eleven passed their BTS in accounting and 12 in management of companies. It was the first time that a BTS graduation ceremony was promoted in St. Martin.
For accounting, the successful students were Akeel Bergan, Renory Cellie, Mandisa Christian, Roselinson Coquillas, Patricia Delogu, Vanessa Emmanuel, Steven Epounde, Alexandre Hodge, Jerry Hodge, Derisha Jeffers, and Clarisse Sylvestre.
For management of companies, they were Tanaya Charles, Kasline Doresna, Melissa Dormoy, Alexandra Fis, Monepha Hol, Leowany Javois, Cassandra Martin, Emilia Miller, Jeanique Shepherd, Chaella Smith, Chloé Tondu and Makiba Vidal.
“These are very special results for us and we are honoured to have the Recteur here with us from Guadeloupe,” said Marthe Ogoundélé-Tessi, Vice-Principal in charge of technology classes.
Recteur of the Guadeloupe Academy Mostafa Fourar had cancelled a diploma ceremony in Guadeloupe in favour of St. Martin, indicating the importance of the occasion.
“Two students from the Lycée here passed the BTS with a 100 per cent success rate and the others with 92 per cent pass rate. It’s a fabulous result,” exclaimed Fourar.
“What is remarkable is that they have been studying in difficult conditions since Hurricane Irma and they had to find an exterior training opportunity which turned out to be in Nancy, France, where I am from and I was able to help them with my contacts for their studies there,” he said.
St. Martin student Cassandra Martin was declared the most successful student in the French Antilles-Guiana region.
Fourar added that the Baccalureate General pass rate this year was 60 per cent. This was still 20 points better than the previous year. The Professional Baccalaureate success rate was not as good as last year, but overall it was still not too bad, he said.
Four students passed their Major Baccalaureate. These were Rosanne Phebe (general series), Flerita Richemon (technology series), Denis Mathurin (series ST12D), and for Major Baccalaureate Professional, Tiago Ribeiro-Vieira.
The full programme included speeches by Fourar, Lycée Principal Marlène Borel, the Recteur’s representative Michel Sanz, and Vice-President Annick Petrus. The invited speakers were Semsamar president Annette Philips, Très Petits Entreprises (TPE) president Jeanne Rogers-Vanterpool, and Ida Zin Ka leu.
