The newest addition to Tropical Shipping’s cargo fleet, “Tropic Hope,” made her inaugural call here in January. Economic Affairs and Transport Minister Stuart Johnson and Port St. Maarten welcomed her and thanked Tropical for adding another ship to the St. Maarten route.
The vessel’s name is symbolic of the country’s reconstruction after the devastation of Hurricane Irma, said Port management. Tropical Shipping General Manager Keyla van Heyningen said the ship’s arrival shows Tropical is committed to its customers and to island life. Johnson presented Van Heyningen with a plaque to mark the occasion. Tropical has invested in six new vessels, which will arrive here on Sunday morning and Tuesday night, to replace older ships. Tropical Shipping continues to bring double-digit growth numbers on full imports and trans-shipment due to St. Maarten’s hub-port function.
