Male teacher suspected of inappropriate behaviour

PHILIPSBURG–A male teacher of Marie Genevieve de Weever School has been “sent home” pending investigations into allegations of what Education Minister Jorien Wuite has termed “inappropriate behaviour.”

Wuite confirmed the suspension during the Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday. “I can confirm that a teacher at the Marie Genevieve de Weever School has been sent home pending allegations of inappropriate behaviour,” she said.

“This ongoing matter is currently being investigated by all relevant authorities and as such I will not make any further comments on this case at this time except to say that as Minister of Education and as school board to this and all public schools I of course take the safety and security of our children very seriously and will continually endeavour to keep our children safe.”

She did not go into details of the allegations of inappropriate behaviour, but The Daily Herald understands that the male teacher in question was caught using a mobile device to record under the skirt of a female pupil. Parents at the school, who are aware of the incident, are reportedly enraged that the teacher was not brought before police for the incident, but was just sent home.
