The scene of the accident on Friday afternoon, where a man was buried under a load of sand.
BACK BAY–The St. Maarten Fire Department, the St. Maarten Police Force KPSM, and the Ambulance Department were called out to Back Bay after 5:00pm Friday because a man has been buried under a load of sand.
According to information coming into The Daily Herald, the man was reportedly excavating a trench and some of the removed sand shifted and fell back into the trench, partly burying him.
Emergency services are still working to free the trapped man as of 6:50pm Friday. This newspaper understands the man is still alive. Early reports indicate that his face is not under the sand and he is still able to communicate with emergency workers.
The extent of his injuries is yet unknown. However, emergency workers say he must be freed slowly to avoid aggravating whatever injuries he may have. Heavy machinery has been called to the scene to help remove the sand.
