PHILIPSBURG–The stabbing victim in the brawl on Tuesday afternoon passed away at the St. Maarten Medical Center Emergency Room. The victim known by the nickname SK was involved in a brawl with another man who was his neighbour at 1:15pm Tuesday.
The reason behind the fight remains unknown, according to police detectives. They interviewed witnesses all afternoon Tuesday close to the home on Madrid Drive in Dutch Quarter where the stabbing took place. Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said the suspect believed to have committed the stabbing is in custody.
“On the scene, investigating officers encountered the victim who was bleeding from several stab wounds he had suffered. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and rushed to St. Maarten Medical Center for further medical treatment.
“Two house searches were done during which one spent bullet cartridge was found. Two motor vehicles were confiscated for further investigation. The reason why this incident happened is still unclear,” stated Henson.
The Daily Herald understands that the incident had to do with a parking spot. The two men started arguing on Monday evening about who should be parking in a lot situated close to their homes. The suspect allegedly flashed a firearm and told his neighbour that he would park where he wanted. The victim walked shirtless outside his home on Tuesday and was attacked by the suspect with a knife.
Police Forensic investigators were at the scene and collected several items that can help with the investigation.
Henson asks witnesses to come forward and help police solve the case. Persons can call the police station at 542-2222 or 911.
