MARIGOT–A man already known to the justice system is to attend a correctional hearing in Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, this coming Friday following his arrest on Tuesday in Grand Case for possession of drugs and a semi-automatic weapon.
Acting on the request of the prosecutor, a patrol of the Republican Guard intervention platoon staged a control on the Boulevard of Grand Case.
A 30-year-old man was held around 1:00am Tuesday. He was found to be carrying a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol with 12 bullets. In addition, six grams of cannabis herb and one gram of cocaine were found in his T-Max scooter. The scooter was confiscated, as was 295 euros in cash.
The suspect had already been sentenced four times since 2012, notably prison sentences for extortion and aggravated robbery. He was presented to the prosecutor’s office in the courthouse, then placed under a committal order by the judge of freedoms and liberty.
The accused will be tried on charges of carrying a category B weapon, repeat drug offences, driving without a licence and no insurance for the scooter.
Due to the Easter holiday there were no immediate hearings in the Marigot court.
