Mariners advised to stay clear of fireworks barge in Great Bay | THE DAILY HERALD

POINTE BLANCHE–All vessels in Great Bay must adhere to the area restriction connected to the New Year’s fireworks display. The restriction will be in place as of Monday, December 31, according to Port St. Maarten’s Maritime Department.

A colourful fireworks display sponsored by the Port will be set off from the barge at the stroke of midnight to usher in 2019.

The New Year’s fireworks display barge will be anchored in the restricted area. The restricted area will be 250 metres around the barge. Vessels not related to the display will not be allowed in this area. The restriction is necessary for the safety of mariners and those involved in the execution of the display.

The Port calls on the cooperation of mariners whose vessels are regularly anchored or moored in Great Bay to clear the area on Monday. Port vessels will be on hand to assist with keeping vessels clear of the restricted area.
