Minister of Social Development Evans McNiel Rogers.
ANGUILLA–Minister of Social Development Evans McNiel Rogers who has responsibility for Gender Affairs opened Men’s Week 2018 with an address to the nation. He noted the theme for this year which is “Committed to change: Men in Enterprising Endeavours.”
He said that sometimes Father’s Day is overlooked but that it is an important celebration as fathers are essential to the strength and growth of community. “A father should not only provide and protect for anyone needing his assistance, but he must take the quality moments to show love in the best way perceived by a child, through his attention and time,” he said.
He urged the community during Men’s Week to recognise the important role that fathers play in the lives of children. He said that men should be applauded for their exemplary lives, for speaking against injustice, and offering their time, energy and commitment toward making other lives better. He congratulated the 17 men who are being honoured this week and said there are many men in Anguilla who are visionary and influence society daily. He said they should be remembered all the time.
The Minister closed by thanking Ronya Foy Connor for creating and organising Men’s Week and reinforcing that Gender Affairs is concerned with the positive development of men, women and children. He said he looks forward to the success of the week. “Together we are strong, and our nation is stronger when we utilise our gifts and talents for the work of the common good. As men, we must be committed to positive change. I wish you a Happy Men’s Week and a memorable Father’s Day,” he concluded.
