ANGUILLA–Permanent Secretary for Education, Chanelle Petty Barrett welcomed key island-wide educators to the 2018 review of the 2015-2020 Education Development Plan (EDP), held at the Teachers Resource Center, on Friday, August 24. Barrett thanked all educators for their outstanding work over the past year, saying,
“It was probably one of our most trying years, but through your collaboration, commitment and love for our students, we overcame and successfully pulled through despite the damage of Hurricane Irma to our schools. The purpose of today’s [Friday’s – Ed.] review is to assess the ongoing progress of the 2015-2020 EDP goals and priorities, [the – Ed.] success [of which – Ed.] is dependent on the collaborative efforts of all our education stakeholders.”
Barrett stressed the need to address additional avenues to better support the teacher cadre through additional training and professional development, and better assist students to attain their goals and maximise their potential. Personnel changes and re-assignments for the upcoming school year were also announced.
Education Services Planner Dawn Reid said, “The annual review allows for reflection of the achievements and challenges of the 2018 school year while beginning to plan for the 2019 school year. We will look at what is working well, what needs to change, and what can be improved. We need to assess constructive feedback and prioritise where we should focus our efforts for the coming year within the educational sector.”
The daylong exercise focused on assessing and sharing the status of current progress for the outcomes listed in the EDP’s 2015-2020 goals which cover five areas: Pre-primary Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Technical Vocational Educational Training, and Central Education, as well as updates for ongoing infrastructure rebuilding plans.
