Marie Antoinette Richards School
MARIGOT–The Marie-Antoinette Richards primary school in Morne O’Reilly suffered only minor damages during the hurricanes and will be ready to welcome pupils for the new school year on September 3, 2018. For the 160 children enrolled at Marie-Antoinette Richards the 2017/18 school year took place under normal conditions; only the refectory door and concierge room roof were damaged.
Roof controls have been carried out to plug small water leaks when it rains. These repairs are on track to be completed by the end of August for an amount of 7,500 euros.
The seven classrooms and all the buildings of this school will be fully operational as of September 3, to accommodate the 162 students who are already enrolled.
Marie-Antoinette Richards School will welcome pupils living in Friar’s Bay, Colombier, St. Louis, Rambaud, Morne O’Reilly and La Savane.
Marie-Amélie Leydet School
Marie-Amélie Leydet school located in Concordia near the heavily damaged media library suffered more damage, particularly to the glass roof covering a courtyard.
The 318 students enrolled for the 2017/18 school year were able to start school on November 6, 2017, under acceptable conditions. After the necessary work to seal the roof that was undertaken in February 2018, the Collectivité began the work of repairing aluminium joinery on doors and windows and the perimeter fence in April, during the Easter holidays.
The major work of restoring the glass roof of the courtyard, which shattered during the hurricanes, was undertaken in early July 2018 so as not to disrupt school times. The latter should be completed before the end of August. Some 65,000 euros from the Collectivité’s budget was earmarked for these repairs.
After some more work to beautify its surroundings and installation of its sign, the Marie-Amélie Leydet school will be ready at the beginning of September 2018 to welcome the 293 pupils who will start their school year there. Enrolment for 2018/19 has been reduced by 25 pupils compared to the enrolment for the year 2017.
Marie-Amélie Leydet School located at La Sucrerie, Concordia will welcome students residing at Concordia 3 (Rue Jean-Jacques Fayel, Rue du Soleil Levant, Résidence Béverly, Résidence la Sucrerie, Résidence les Surettes, Résidence Habitat Plus, Résidence Calypso, Résidence Cannelle, Rue de la Colombe, Rue J.L Hamlet, Rue Ann Mary, Rue Mangue Pomme, and Résidence de la Gendarmerie).
