PHILIPSBURG–Mirjam Mol has been appointed as the new Chief Prosecutor for St. Maarten, the Kingdom Council of Ministers announced Friday. The current team leader at the Anti-Corruption Task Force (TBO) in Curaçao will be taking up her new job as per January 1, 2019.
The Kingdom Council of Ministers approved her nomination on the proposal of Minister of Justice and Security Ferd Grapperhaus and Minister for Legal Protection Sander Dekker.
Mol is not only TBO team leader but also the Prosecutor’s Office’s Detective Coordinator (Coördinerend Recherche Officier) at the Attorney-General’s Office for Curaçao and St. Maarten and for Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, since December 2016.
Mol is the successor of Jeroen Steenbrink (59), who was appointed Interim Chief Prosecutor in St. Maarten one year ago to date. His appointment took effect on January 1, 2018.
According to a reliable source, Steenbrink will be returning to the Netherlands to take up a position within the Prosecutor’s Office’s organisation in the Zeeland-West Brabant region. The Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on the “changing of the guard” within its organisation.
The Kingdom Council of Ministers on Friday also approved the appointment of Darcy Jansen as member of the Joint Court of Justice in Aruba and of Pieterjan Vonk as an acting member of the Joint Court.
Jansen is currently a trainee-judge at the Joint Court of Justice. Vonk is Vice-President of the Court in The Hague.
