MARIGOT–Carnival festivities continue on the French side with the election of Miss Carnival 2019 this coming Saturday evening, February 23 at 8:00 in the former Carnival Village site in Galisbay, located opposite the car park.

There are seven candidates, ages between 17 and 19 years, who will be competing for the prestigious Miss Carnival crown. Each will be on stage for six different segments; a group presentation (dance choreography by Melissa Boasman), Cultural Wear, Talent, Beach Wear, Carnival Costume, and Evening Wear.

Also, the programme features singers Malaïka Maxwell, Kenyo Baly, Ebony Empress and the dancers from group Royal. This is a show not to be missed. Admission tickets are still on sale for 10 euros for children and 20 euros for adults at Levis and Marjorie Séduction store in Marigot, and at Inglot store on Bush Road (Dutch side).

The festivities will continue on Sunday, February 24, with the Children’s Parade, starting at 2:00pm in Marigot and finishing around 6:00pm. The parade route is Jean-Louis Vanterpool Stadium (start), Rue de Hollande, Rue de la Liberté, Rue du Président Kennedy, Rue de Hollande and Jean-Louis Vanterpool Stadium (finish).

Troupes participating are Collège de Quartier d’Orléans, Ecole Primaire Elie Gibs, Ecole Primaire Marie Antoinette Richards, Ecole Maternelle Jérôme Beaupère, Associations les Manguiers, Ecole Primaire Emélie Leydet, Ecole Primaire Hervé Williams, Ecole Primaire Emile Choisy and the Chinese Association of St. Maarten. In all, about 650 participants.

The public is reminded that this Friday, February 22, is the last opportunity before Carnival to take part in February’s “Get Fit 2 Fete” free Zumba session in the new sports hall of Jean-Louis Vanterpool Stadium, from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, conducted by a Kalaboom Fitness Trainer. The Junior Territorial Council collaborated with the Carnival committee to organise the free sessions as part of their programme to advocate a healthy and active lifestyle.
