MARIGOT–Alisson Georges emerged the winner of the Miss St. Martin/St. Barths local pageant held in Marigot on Thursday night, and will represent the two northern islands in the Miss France contest in December. She will shortly join the preparations with other Miss France contestants from the regions over the next few months.
Georges succeeded the 2016 winner Anaëlle Hippolyte who acknowledged the cheers from the crowd as she made her final appearance on stage. The evening at the open-air venue on Rue General de Gaulle remained dry except for one short rain shower that sent the jury and spectators scurrying for cover under the tents.
George (18) who is studying for her Baccalaureate in Economics and Social studies also won Most Facebook Likes, Miss Photogenic, and the Committee Prize. First runner-up went to Jessica Borilla (19) from St. Barths who also won Miss Congeniality, the prize chosen by the other contestants.

Second runner-up went to Johangel Santos who won the Jury Prize and General Culture prize. Santos, who has competed in Miss Carnival, exuded confidence on stage and was clearly one of the more popular candidates. Third runner-up was awarded to Joy Biranda. Eunice Charbonne and Dana Benhoa placed fourth and fifth respectively. Charbonne won the People’s Choice Award.

The six contestants (originally there were eight at the final selection stage, but two dropped out) appeared on stage in Cultural Wear, Swim Wear and Empress evening wear. The interview segment involved one question: “How do you think this experience will benefit you in the future?” Most of the contestants confessed to being quite shy as the pageant was their first experience in front of an audience.
Among the highlights of the show was Oswald, who sang three numbers and an encore which pleased his army of fans. He is pursuing an international career in France. Another highlight was the Gala Show put on by Miss France and her four runners-up.
