Montessori pupils and their “Breakfast of Thanks” gift baskets.
CUPECOY–The Upper Elementary class of the St. Maarten Montessori School took their 20th annual “Breakfast of Thanks” on the road, where 16 pupils of levels 4, 5 and 6 delivered gift baskets of non-perishable food and health-care items to the patrons of Bishop Ellis Foundation.
Traditionally, the Upper Elementary class celebrates Thanksgiving by inviting a group of community members to share a buffet breakfast, speeches and entertainment in their specially decorated classroom, Montessori School said in a press release on Monday.
“This year, we decided to assist members of our community who continue to struggle in these times of post-Irma recovery,” said Shelly Jack, principal of Montessori School. “We believe it’s important for our pupils to understand that community service is everyone’s responsibility, no matter what their age.”
For the first time, Montessori pupils celebrated their “Breakfast of Thanks” off campus. In past, classroom guests have included civil servants, medical personnel, artists, environmentalists, movers and shakers under age 30, the release said.
