PHILIPSBURG--Nation Opportunity Wealth (NOW) Member of Parliament (MP) Lyndon Lewis has paid tribute to the men and women serving throughout the Ministry of Justice, thanking them for their dedication.
He made the remarks in a press release for Justice Day last Friday. Lewis, who serves as Vice Chair of Parliament's Justice Committee and is a former Minister of Justice, said Justice Day was an opportunity to recognise the many individuals whose work helps maintain law, order and public safety.
"As the former Minister of Justice and, by extension, a law enforcement professional, I hereby take this opportunity to recognise the countless individuals whose unwavering commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice help maintain law, order, and public safety in our country on this special day. Their dedication, often carried out behind the scenes and under challenging circumstances, forms the backbone of our justice system."
Lewis also recognised Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling and Justice Secretary-General Florence Marlin for their leadership and dedicated service to the men and women serving in the ministry's various departments. He also acknowledged the contributions of the ministry's department heads and all justice workers.
He paid tribute to members of the Police Force of St. Maarten, Customs, Immigration, the Coast Guard, the Prison and House of Detention, National Detectives, the Staff Bureau, administrative personnel, the Court of Guardian, the Court House, the Prosecutor's Office, the Financial Intelligence Unit, the Voluntary Corps, Victim Support Services, Turning Point Foundation, Judicial and Institutional Services and all other professionals who facilitate within the justice chain.
"Every member of the justice family plays a vital role in protecting our nation and upholding the rule of law," MP Lewis stated. "Without your dedication, commitment, and sacrifices, there can be no justice. Your service often goes unseen, but it is deeply valued and appreciated."
Lewis said that, as Vice Chair of Parliament's Justice Committee, he remains committed to advocating for a stronger justice sector by supporting revenue-generating initiatives aimed at improving resources, working conditions and opportunities for justice professionals.
He thanked all justice workers, past and present, for their invaluable contributions to St. Maarten.
