MP seeks info | THE DAILY HERALD

Parliamentarian Claude Peterson met General Audit Chamber Chairman Ronald Halman and Secretary-General Joane Dovale-Meit recently to learn more about the high council of state.

Peterson was told of the importance of government submitting annual financial reports to the Chamber so these can be debated in Parliament on a timely basis. Also discussed were handling of the country’s budget in Parliament. Peterson believes the budget should be available digitally in English and Dutch. He commended the Chamber for disseminating its information and reports in both official languages of the country. Referring to the shift of the education system more to English as language of instruction, Peterson said it is important not to create second-class citizens via the barring of graduates from top government functions because they do not command the Dutch language. On information storage, Peterson urged government to take from the Chamber’s example the use of “cloud-computing” to safeguard and share information across departments. Peterson was accompanied at the meeting by faction staffer Benjamin Bell.
