PHILIPSBURG–Members of Parliament (MPs) on Thursday installed and unanimously approved the composition of the fourteen Permanent and Ad Hoc Committees of Parliament, but will handle the installation and composition of the Committees of the Latin American Parliament Parlatino at a later date.
Chairperson of Parliament William Marlin adjourned the agenda point regarding Parlatino Committees until a proposal discussed in the Central Committee regarding Parlatino Committees is finalised and sent to MPs.
As it relates to the Permanent and Ad Hoc Committees, it was suggested that in connection with work visits, the rules and regulations relating to work visits contained in “Guidelines for Travel – Members of Parliament” and adopted by Parliament on June 8, 2015, would be observed. Also, for work visits related to national holidays of other islands of the former Netherlands Antilles, a maximum of four delegates, one from each faction, will participate in accordance with a rotation schedule.
There is a total of 14 Permanent and Ad Hoc Committees of the Parliament of St. Maarten.
Appointed to the Committee for General Affairs were MPs Sidharth M. Bijlani, Rolando Brison, Chanel Brownbill, Christophe Emmanuel, Ardwell Irion, Silveria Jacobs, Jules James, Tamara Leonard, Marlin, Luc Mercelina, Franklin Meyers, Claude Peterson and Sarah Wescot-Williams.
Appointed to the Committee for Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure were Egbert Jurendy Doran, Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Emmanuel, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson and Wescot-Williams.
Committee for Justice comprises Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-Williams.
Committee for Finance members are Frans Richardson, Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Irion, James, Leonard, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson and Wescot-Williams.
Members of the Committee for Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication are Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-Williams.
On the Committee for Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs are Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-William.
The Committee for Public Health, Social Development and Labour comprises MPs Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-Williams.
On the Committee for Kingdom Affairs and Inter-parliamentary Relations are MPs Brison, Jacobs, Meyers and Peterson.
The Committee for Petitions has as members MPs Bijlani, Emmanuel, Leonard and Wescot-Williams.
The Committee for Country’s Expenditures comprises MPs Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Mercelina, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-Williams.
The Committee for Parlatino Matters has as members Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Emmanuel, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Peterson and Wescot-Williams.
The Ad Hoc Committee for the Preparation of the Construction of a New Building for Parliament (Ad Hoc Committee New Parliament Building) has as members MPs Bijlani, Brownbill, Doran, Irion, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Meyers and Peterson.
On the Ad Hoc Committee for Integrity are MPs Bijlani, Brison, Brownbill, Doran, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Peterson, Richardson and Wescot-Williams.
The Ad Hoc Committee for Electoral Reform consists of Bijlani, Jacobs, James, Leonard, Marlin, Mercelina, Meyers, Peterson and Wescot-Williams.
The public meeting to handle the committees was originally scheduled to be held on September 12, but had been postponed, due to a lack of quorum. The meeting was reconvened on October 7, but was adjourned before the handling of the agenda points, for the advice to be ready for agenda point 3. The meeting was then called for October 11, but was postponed until further notice.
At the start of the meeting, Marlin said, according to the Rules of Order, at the beginning of each Parliamentary year, as well as in the first public meeting after a periodic resignation or after the dissolution of Parliament, the Chairperson assigns members to permanent committees for the investigation of certain subjects and to the committee for petitions, unless Parliament decides otherwise.
