PHILIPSBURG–Members of Parliament (MPs) will discuss the readiness of the country for the current hurricane season during a meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament starting at 9:00am today, Monday.
Minister of General Affairs, Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin; Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labour Emil Lee; Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure Miklos Giterson and Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever will be present for the meeting.
The first agenda point for the meeting is “disaster preparedness – status update and measures being taken to prepare for and reduce the effects of disasters with the hurricane season 2018 approaching.” It should be noted that the hurricane season has already started and the peak of the season is approaching. The meeting was requested by National Alliance (NA) leader MP Silveria Jacobs, NA MP Ardwell Irion and NA MP Egbert Doran.
The second agenda point for the meeting is the approval of an invitation for one MP to participate in a delegation to attend the 73rd General Assembly of the United Nations on September 18, in New York.
The public can follow the parliamentary deliberations in person at the House of Parliament located across from the Courthouse in Philipsburg.
