PHILIPBURG–“Music Brings People Together,” a project by National Institute of Arts (NIA), supported by the Dutch Disaster Fund Nationaal Rampenfonds, has been launched successfully this month at several primary schools and St. Dominic High School.

Youth Orchestra Director Neville James joined forces with Band Director Connis Vanterpool and several musicians to tour the schools conducting 45 minutes lecture demonstrations0 introducing the pupils and students to the different instruments to be incorporated in the Youth Orchestra (YO) “to spark their musical interest and curiosity to join the YO,” said NIA Director Arlene Halley.

The lecture demonstrations will continue in January 2019 to visit the remaining schools in St. Maarten, exposing students and pupils to the many possibilities of the Orchestra.

In addition, NIA will hold an audition at John Larmonie Centre for students between eight and 18 years old with an instrument and previous music experience on Saturday, January 19, 9:00am-11:00am.

The second audition is scheduled for beginners and aspiring musicians with no instruments and no prior experience, on Saturday, January 26, also at John Larmonie Centre from 9:00am to 11:00am.

No registration is necessary. Parents are kindly requested to accompany their children. For further information send an email at niasxm@gmail.com.
