PHILIPSBURG–The recently installed board of the Nationale Algemene Politie Bond (NAPB) police union visited several places where its members who are Immigration officers work to, amongst other things, introduce themselves and listen to the concerns of members.

The first stop on Thursday, August 30, was at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA), where the union board members were greeted by leaders of the NAPB team at PJIA.

The team leaders met with NAPB and, according to the union, parties had “very fruitful” discussions. NAPB said despite their working conditions, the team leaders “are very much satisfied.” The team leaders raised some concerns which the board believes can be sorted out and resolved with their superiors.

NAPB also visited the Alpha Team, also at PJIA. The board spoke with the leader of the Alpha Team and the union described the visit and discussions as being “healthy.” The members of the Alpha Team also spoke about their working conditions and how their situation has been since Hurricane Irma. NAPB said there is “room for improvement,” adding that seeing the conditions at the airport after Irma, the workers are also satisfied.

The board visited its members working at the Immigration Border Control building on Friday, August 31, where they were met by Director Richard Panneflek and K. Brown. The union described its meeting with Panneflek and Brown as being “very interesting.”

The board then visited Immigration officers working at the Simpson Bay police substation, who expressed concern on several issues.

A visit was also made to the St. Maarten-Anguilla ferry dock, where the union met with its members working there.

The board said its intention is to complete its working visits to places where its members work and then “bring everyone together” for a general membership meeting to inform members about pending issues and the board’s focus for 2018 and 2019.
