National Day of Prayer Jan. 13   | THE DAILY HERALD

POND ISLAND–Government in collaboration with St. Maarten Christian Council, St. Maarten United Ministerial Foundation and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church will be holding the fourteenth annual National Day of Prayer on Sunday, January 13.

The service will be held in front of the Government Administration Building on Pond Island starting at 4:30pm.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (ECYS) Wycliffe Smith said this ecumenical service, which is held on the second Sunday of each new year, had been decreed in 2005 by an Executive Council Resolution of the then-Island Territory of St. Maarten, and has since become part and parcel of the annual cultural calendar of government programmes and activities.

“The National Day of Prayer offers the opportunity for us, a people, to come together and give God thanks for His guidance, mercy and protection during the past year and to seek His guidance, direction, protection and wisdom during the New Year – in this case 2019,” Smith said during the live Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday. “As Minister of ECYS, I take this opportunity to invite people of all faiths to come together on Sunday, January 13, to pray for our nation.”
