National Institute of Arts has circus classes on offer

CAY HILL–National Institute of Arts (NIA) will present a free circus-act performance at the gym hall at Asha Stevens Hillside Christian School in Cay Hill on Saturday, at 1:30pm.

The free performance is to showcase the talents of international circus performers Olga Subbota and her partner Alexsey, who will offer circus classes at the Institute.

This collaboration between NIA and Olga Entertainment Agency is a new partnership to create and expand the creative expressive opportunities for St. Maarten’s children, NIA said in a statement Thursdays.

The circus platform is to give children, teenagers and adults the opportunity to explore more fun activities and develop physical coordination, endurance and agility. The group classes are to help foster communication skills amongst students in a safe, creative and supportive environment, building on trust, the statement says.

In the early stages of the course beginning students will focus on strength and flexibility training, as well as endurance. As they progress, students will be introduced to specific circus genres.

Persons interested in circus-genre class can acquire skills in juggling, hand balance, balancing numerous hula-hoops, aerial acts and many more skills.

Classes begin in February and are scheduled every Saturday afternoon for children as young as four years old to interested adults. NIA is open daily from 2:00pm to 6:00pm for registration for the circus classes.
