National Security Service launches new website

PHILIPSBURG–The National Security Service VDSM recently launched its website . Prime Minister/General Affairs Minister William Marlin said at the launch the website was “another important step” to address integrity issues, and increase transparency and accountability within the Government organisation. VDSM is known to many as the institution that carries out the screening of nominees for the position of Ministers. The legal basis for the functioning of the Service is the National Ordinance on Security Service. Its tasks include carrying out security screenings, promotion of security measures and to conduct investigations to protect the country from persons or organisations that might threaten its democratic legal order, its integrity or its other vital interests, including those of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

He encouraged residents to visit the website to gather information. “The website ensures that you can exercise that freedom of information. All the information you need is now at your fingertips. Keep yourself informed so you can contribute to the development of your country,” Marlin said. To VDSM, he urged them to keep publishing as much information as possible to keep the people and the world informed about the importance of the work they do for St. Maarten.
