The children summer camp of St. Eustatius National Park Stenapa opened on Monday with educational and fun activities in the national parks and in the Miriam C. Schmidt Botanical Gardens.
Some 20 children have been on iguana patrols, hiked the hills of Gilboa in the Boven National park and had a day packed with marine activities –snorkelling, boat rides, and a visit to Golden Rock Dive Center. The youngsters have learned the correct practices used when interacting with the environment – land, sea, plants and creatures. They will continue with a visit to the botanical garden to spend some time understanding how to care for the garden and to learn with lizards and other native animals the garden creates a habitat for. Friday will be a fun but also a practical day as they put their energy to use as they clear garbage from the turtle-nesting beach at Zeelandia. In photos: Children hike in Gilboa and the dive centre.
