CAY HILL–The medical team at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) received a boost with the addition of anaesthesiologist Dr. Katarzyna Zagólska to SMMC’s team of specialists.
Zagólska began her tenure at SMMC at the beginning of January and joins current anaesthesiologist, Dr. Yelena George bolstering the anaesthesiology department.
Zagólska is from Cracow, Poland, where she previously worked at The Order Bonifraters Hospital. After receiving her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Zagólska completed her post-graduate residency at University Hospital in Cracow.
She brings 10 years of experience to SMMC and is enthusiastic to use her knowledge and clinical experience in anaesthesiology and intensive care with modern techniques. She describes herself as highly motivated and one with strong work ethics, SMMC said in a press release on Thursday.
Zagólska hopes to connect with patients and be able to address their concerns with anaesthesia and the surgical experience to help make the best of their overall experience at SMMC.
“You may only see a patient for a short period of time, but it is so important to have a personal connection with them. Anaesthesia is personal, life-involving and brings together family members with the patient. A large part of my job is to introduce someone to that aspect of surgery and make their experience as pleasant as possible,” she said.
SMMC said it is “delighted” to welcome Zagólska to the team of medical specialists as the hospital continues its objective of bringing “quality care close to home” for patients in St. Maarten and surrounding islands.
