New boss at BZK Ministry

THE HAGUE—Per March 2018 the Dutch Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations BZK will get a new Secretary-General in the person of Maarten Schurink. He succeeds Richard van Zwol who has been appointed to the Council of State.

The Dutch Council of Ministers on Friday approved Schurink’s appointment based on a proposal of Minister of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Kajsa Ollongren. The position of secretary-general, which is the highest at the Ministry, has been available for a few months since Van Zwol’s departure earlier this year.

Schurink is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Social Insurance Bank SVB. In the past he has worked as municipal registrar in Utrecht. Before that he held several management positions in Dordrecht.

From 2002 to 2006, Schurink worked as senior advisor at the Berenschot Group. He has also worked as policy advisor and acting project leader at the BZK Ministry. Schurink studied Administration and Organisation, and Politics at the Catholic University Nijmegen.
