PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Innovation, Initiatives and Industries Linkup Event (SMILE), a “new innovation and networking” event is set to take place on University of St. Martin (USM) November 2-3.
SMILE was developed by St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) in conjunction with ORCO Bank, Global Resourcing, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (COCI), USM and 360 Innovation.
Organisers said in a press statement the event will serve as a platform for innovations, business updates and networking, as well as to receive more clarity on how St. Maarten companies can take part in upcoming World Bank tenders.
SMILE, billed as the successor to “Build Back Better Week,” is to focus on the practical side of innovation and offer networking opportunities for individuals, companies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
The event will provide workshops on applying for World Bank tenders for local and specialised foreign companies as well as forging joint venture strategies. Workshop topics will include dealing with the landfill, social housing, utility networks and large-scale infrastructure projects that might lead to World Bank tenders for specialised expertise not provided on island.
As of this week, interested companies, domestic and foreign, can contact the SMILE project office at
info@shta.com , call 542-0108 or visit
