WILLEMSTAD–Burney “Nini” Fonseca was sentenced to 25 years behind bars in Curaçao as mediator for the murder of “Pueblo Soberano” (PS) leader Helmin Magno Wiels on May 5, 2013. Fonseca acted as coordinator between the still to be tried intellectual authors and executors of the paid assassination, who were already convicted in the “Magnus” case. The current investigation into those who ordered and orchestrated the killing is known as “Maximus.” The court agreed with all the charges levied by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Nini was the one who received the money for the hit and further distributed it to the men who shot the then parliamentarian dead at Marie Pampoen Beach.
The prosecution received assistance from an unexpected corner, namely triggerman Elvis “Monster” Kuwas, who is serving his sentence in the Netherlands. The meanwhile confessed killer was brought to the island under heavy security to personally testify against Fonseca. His statement and other pieces of evidence led to Thursday’s verdict. Former MFK-minister George “Jorge” Jamaloodin was again mentioned as the one who presumably arranged the murder. He is currently detained in neighbouring Venezuela pending his extradition.
