MAHO–Plans are on the way to rebuild Hurricane Irma-ravaged Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Sonesta Ocean Point. However, due to the extensive rebuilding and renovation plans, no reopening date is yet available.
“The entire process is long and arduous and it has been emotional for everyone involved –ownership, our entire team of incredible employees and even our past guests, who continue to contact us for updates,” Maho Group spokesperson Andria Mitsakos told The Daily Herald.
Mitsakos added, “Everyone wants their Maho back, and while we are of course dedicated to restoring the destination and creating a superior tourism product that we hope will rival anywhere in the Caribbean, a number of factors still need to be considered in order to determine the re-construction schedule and, ultimately, the reopening dates.”
The Maho Group has released renderings of the proposed new looks for the country’s premier all-inclusive resorts. The design utilizes clean lines with contemporary chic facades. The improvement will give the two resorts an even more upscale beach feel.
“Our architectural and design team’s aim is to keep the heritage of the building, but re-imagine it in a more contemporary way. Cleaner lines and a sleek palette are key components of the proposed redesign,” said Mitsakos.
“As anyone can see when driving through Maho, we’ve spent the past months clearing debris with the aim to completely strip the Sky Tower building at Sonesta Maho down to its bare structure, which is the first step in any rebuild process,” Mitsakos pointed out.
