One Happy Kingdom living history event at the Diligentia Theatre

Loud applause and cheers sounded for the mostly St. Maarten casting of the One Happy Kingdom living history event at the Diligentia Theatre on Sunday evening. One Happy Kingdom put the times of slavery and the abolition thereof in St. Maarten central. The enslaved in St. Maarten managed to obtain their freedom fifteen years before the Dutch abolition, through heroic deeds of those working on the plantations in Cul-de-Sac and in the Great Salt Pond, aided by the fact that slavery was already abolished in the French territories, including St. Martin. The audience Sunday evening enjoyed the narratives about this time in history and the musical and acting talents. Especially the act of One Tȇté Lohkay, superbly played by Edwina Hogde, and the Ponum Dance performed by dancers of Adrien Busby were well-received. The proceeds are going to St. Maarten.
