Operation Santa Claus hands out gifts to children on Statia | THE DAILY HERALD

Santa Claus has a gift for a baby boy who is fast asleep in his arms.

St. EUSTATIUS–Operation Santa Claus was out and about on Wednesday, Boxing Day. The theme of this year’s event was ,“A Super Hero Christmas.”

At the start of the event, not one but two Santa Clauses and their helpers were very busy strewing a multitude of candies to eagerly awaiting children.

Santa Claus also handed out presents to lucky children with a ticket at Mike van Putten Youth Centre. The children and their parents formed an orderly line to receive their gift. One Santa was designated to hand out presents to the girls and the other to the boys.

More than 500 gifts were given out to children up to 11 years old, said one of Operation Santa Claus’ helpers.

Marietza Patrick extended her apologies for the delay in the event. She explained that some of the toys that were to be given out had been left back in Miami, Florida. Therefore, the event which had been planned for December 20 had to be delayed until December 26.

She also extended her apologies for the limited number of booths at the event, as booth holders who were previously scheduled to be present on the original date could not make it on Wednesday.

Operation Santa Claus featured several raffles with prizes. The children were very much delighted with the presents they received from Santa Claus. Some were seen playing with their gifts just after receiving it.

Operation Santa Claus event was launched five years ago by among others Dwayne Lindo, Iligia Jones and Patrick. Team members and their helpers were kept busy over several nights and days wrapping all the presents for the children in gift paper.
