Organisers focus on 2019 Night of the Hit Makers

PHILIPSBURG–“Overwhelmed and humbled” were the sentiments of organiser Berteaux “Mr. Rude” Fleming on Tuesday describing the turnout and support by the public for this year’s TelCell Night of the Hit Makers in Carnival Village last month.

According to Fleming, neither the devastation of Hurricane Irma in September last year nor the tightening of sponsorship belts curbed his enthusiasm to stage his premier Carnival show of shows for the height of this year’s Carnival festivities.

“At the beginning stage of our promotion I was nervous, as people told me they were not happy with the line-up this year, but getting feedback when the show came close, more people started to feel the vibe this year. This year’s show was great and I thank everyone involved for their support.

“When we listened to music lovers on the island and fans of Night of the Hit Makers, they told us they want to spend more time dancing with the bands and musicians, they loved the show and look forward to next year’s show,” he said. He gave special thanks to the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) board and corporate sponsor TelEm Group, among other sponsors.

The show’s promoters and sponsors announced beforehand that despite the high cost of securing artistes for this year’s show, they had managed to keep the price of tickets affordable. The show drew an audience of close to 9,000 persons, which made it the biggest show for the Carnival season this year.

“We have big surprises for next year’s show because it’s the 50th Carnival season and because of that we will be going with that theme,” stated Fleming.
