Ortis “Face” Schmidt, winner of the Warzone Soca – the Settlement Competition.

ST. EUSTATIUS–Ortis “Face” Schmidt won the Warzone Soca – the Settlement Competition and captured the title of Road March King 2019 with his song “Selfie” during the second night of Statia Carnival 55 at Mike van Putten Youth Center/Carnival City on Thursday.

Schmidt was accompanied on stage by Rebels HD Band. It was a one-two punch for the band, as Genilio “Showtime” Hassell finished first runner-up in the competition. Hassell and Schmidt are both members of Rebels HD Band.

A good-size crowd turned up to the event organised by Laanwaas. The competition featured several artistes who battled it out for the title. Several of them were accompanied on stage by live bands. The night also featured a musical performance by Galloway.

Carnival will continue tonight, Saturday, with a show hosted by Royalty Organisation EUX and EUX Aids Foundation entitled “Run Wid It” Caribbean Fest. The show features several international and local artistes, such as Farmer Nappy from Trinidad, AkaiiUsweet from St. Kitts, Power Soca Champion from Grenada Mr. Killa, T-Time, Rhythm Band T-Time and Turbulanzz band. The show is to pay tribute to the late Edward “Tonki” Windefelde.

The Candy Crush Balloon Spectacle will take place on Sunday, July 21. The event will put the focus on the youngest Carnival lovers in St. Eustatius. The theme for the event will be: “Candy Crush – It’s Like Christmas In July.”
