PHILIPSBURG–More than 70 entrepreneurs and innovators got together to learn about affordable tools and technology to grow their businesses in 2018 during the first “PWR Hour” for 2018.

The event was hosted by Produce Wealth Revolution (PWR) Agency in collaboration with United Telecommunication Services (UTS) and was held at the UTS store in Philipsburg.

During the event, UTS showcased “the latest technology” it has available to assist entrepreneurs and small/medium enterprises to grow their businesses. These included a security system for automobiles, Mi-Fi and special bundles. UTS also provided specials solely for those present and gave away two Virtual Reality Gears (VRGs) to winners of trivia questions. Attendees included representatives of a variety of services from graphic designers and food specialists to lawyers.

Techpreneur and civil servant Marvio Cooks delivered the keynote address and highlighted local companies that are embracing technology, while painting a picture of what a St. Maarten that is innovative in culture would look like. He stressed the importance of understanding the times we are in and helping to build a more resilient economy through technology, it was stated in a press release on Tuesday.

There has been an estimated 25 per cent increase in the starting of businesses since the passing of Hurricane Irma, the release said.

“This is can be attributed to the lack of employment caused by the devastating effects of the hurricane. For this reason, the PWR Agency was started to help support businesses in both the start-up and growth phases. In addition to events and services, the PWR Agency also provides co-working space for those who are starting or have been displaced,” it said.

Events like PWR Tech Hour are designed to connect entrepreneurs to find possible clients and/or strategic partners while providing them with information that can transform their businesses in a fun and dynamic way.

Organisers thanked UTS, Be Your Own Brand and The Johnny Caker for making the evening a success.
