Described as a cultural icon by Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin, Roland “Pa Ben” Bryson’s body was seen for the last time at Emerald Funeral Home in Cay Hill on Monday afternoon.
Hundreds came out to view a standing Pa Ben dressed in his memorable attire. Bryson was best known for his character, old man Pa Ben, and entertained crowds locally and internationally with his performances for years. He also became a cultural fixture with his numerous contributions and love for the annual Carnival seasons. He was an entertainer and recently-retired civil servant who rendered years of service to the government of St. Maarten in his capacity as an employee at the Hygiene and Communication Departments. A cultural manifestation in his honour was held at Festival Village late on Monday.
