PHILIPSBURG–Parliament is preparing for the tripartite meeting of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten and the Inter-Parliamentary Kingdom Consultation IPKO set for Simpson Bay Resort January 7-11, 2019.
The dispute regulation for the Dutch Kingdom will again be on the IPKO agenda. A site visit to the dump will probably be on the agenda.
Parliament had planned to hear from ministers a week ago on topics related to IPKO. That meeting did not go ahead because there was a misunderstanding by the ministers about the reason for the meeting, said Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams at a press conference on Wednesday.
Wescot-Williams and Parliament Second Vice-President Claude Peterson met with World Bank officials about the corporate governance review of Princess Juliana International Airport ahead of doling out a needed recovery loan. The World Bank will conduct the review before any loan from the St. Maarten Recovery Trust Fund is agreed on. Wescot-Williams spoke of concern about how long the airport can sustain its operations without receiving the loan.
On another financial matter, Wescot-Williams said the amendment to the 2018 budget and the draft 2019 budget will be handled in the New Year on request of Finance Minister Perry Geerlings.
Parliament will host pupils of Oranje Primary School, Sister Borgia Primary School and St. Joseph Primary School at a Christmas breakfast today, Thursday. Members of Parliament will serve the children the meal at Parliament House.
