ST. EUSTATIUS–St. Eustatius Arts and Cultural Heritage (STACH) Foundation introduced the four troupes participating in Carnival 2017. The Foundation is responsible for organizing Carnival on the island.
This year will mark the 53rd Carnival celebration on Statia. There will be four troupes taking part in the two parades: Carnival Survivors headed by Joan Windefelde; Multi-Mix Troupe led by Sjudi Redan; Caribbean Tribe led by Julissa Woodley, and Statia Treasurers headed by Teena Lopes.
Carnival Survivors will be consisting of 24 children. Multi-Mix Troupe will have 16 persons including participants from St. Kitts, Holland, and the Dominican Republic.
Caribbean Tribes will have 19 participants, and Statia Treasures currently have 13 revellers on board and are campaigning for five more persons to join in.
The First Day Parade will start at the William and Christine Flanders Community Centre on Saturday, July 29 at 2:00pm.
The Second Day Parade of Sunday, July 30, will start at the bus stop in Golden Rock and will head down Sandy Road to make the route longer, said STACH President Lopes. This parade is scheduled to start at 3:00pm.
Lopes said that Statia Treasures will not be taking part in the competition for best Carnival troupe. “Statia Treasures will just be participating to have fun in the event,” she said.
