Passenger in vehicle that ran over toddler released | THE DAILY HERALD

 

RETREAT ESTATE–The passenger who was in the vehicle that was driven into a group of young men who had been at the entrance of a home, which resulted in a toddler being killed on January 13, has been released.

  Prosecutor’s Office Spokesperson Hazel Durand said on Tuesday the passenger was released last week, but the driver is still in custody and the investigation is continuing.  

 The two-year-old toddler, who was run over by a white Kia Picanto, which was driven into a group of persons who were outside a house on Passion Fruit Road in Retreat Estate around 10:20am on January 13, died on the spot. Three injured persons were transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for injuries sustained at the time.

  Shortly after the incident, two suspects voluntarily turned themselves in to investigators at the Philipsburg Police Station – the driver and the passenger of the vehicle in question.

  The death of the toddler marked the third road fatality for St. Maarten for this year.
