ST. EUSTATIUS–A weather-delayed Taste of Culture took place on Saturday night at Mike van Putten Youth Centre/Lion’s Den. Taste of Culture was to return on Thursday, August 30, from the Carnival hiatus, but the tropical wave that passed the island last week, caused the culinary event to be rescheduled. St. Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation (STDF), in collaboration with St. Eustatius Business Association (STEBA) hosted the event. Director of Tourism Charles Lindo thanked those in attendance.

An appreciative crowd sampled the various delicious dishes and local juices from Statia, Portugal, Suriname and many other countries.

Not all regular booth holders were in attendance, as there were other events taking place that night. One of the new booths at the Lion’s Den was the one of Gerda Gibbs and her team from Celbees Honey. Gibbs was selling locally harvested natural honey. The honey pots came in a variety of sizes to accommodate everyone’s wishes.

“The food tasted so good,” a guest who visited the Portugal booth stated. Che “DJ Sense” Farrell provided the entertainment for the night as he played a wide mixture of music.

The next Taste of Culture, scheduled for September 27, will be quite large with many acts and activities set to take to the stage. The event will also host participants in the seventh annual Statia Sustainability Conference which is scheduled to be held at the Lion’s Den September 27-28.
