ST. EUSTATIUS–Pastor Clive Dottin, Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Director and Field Secretary of the Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists spearheaded a National Restore Revival in St. Eustatius January 19-27, and launched several support groups focussing on drug addicts and victims of abuse and their relatives.

Students at Gwendoline van Putten secondary school were exposed to the Youth Alive motivational ministry conducted by Dottin, and there was an open-air rally in Golden Rock. Pastor Dottin also met with the Island Government, and Police Officers, and made recommendations for the introduction of the Heart Touch ministries under the Mega Mission umbrella.

Dottin said his meeting with the Executive and Island Councils were “dynamic and informative.”

His recommendations included the launching of a National Volunteerism Campaign, making Statia a drug-free island and initiating the Police, Psychologist, Pastors Volunteer (PPPV) network.

The National Restore Revival was said to have a “dynamic spiritual component” with an average attendance of 300 persons nightly. There was a counselling programme and many homes were visited.

On Saturday evening, the Mega Mission Task Force was formed. Roland Lopes was asked to be the chairperson of this group. Pastor Virgil Sams, who invited Dottin to Statia, was asked to serve as advisor to the Task Force.

Statia’s Seventh-Day Adventist Church has declared a “Mega Mission” and has started to support the READI Rehabilitation Centre in Trinidad.

Dottin has a diploma in Elementary Teacher Education and a Bachelor’s in Theology from the University of the Southern Caribbean and a Master’s in Public Health from Loma Linda University.

Since 1984, he has formed several support group ministries, focussing on drug addicts, AIDS patients, students in secondary schools who need special counselling, victims of abuse, depressed youth, gang members and the unemployed.

He is the pioneer and chairperson of the Board that manages READI. Located in Matura, Trinidad, it utilises the psych-social/spiritual model.

Dottin has served on several Government commissions involving AIDS, youth development, drugs, crime and national security. He has worked with several groups including the Republic Bank Youth Link Programme and Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) for the past 25 years.

He is also the pioneer and first chairperson of the Heart Home, an institution for abused children and is assisting the Loveuntil Foundation in developing a network of support group ministries in the Port of Spain East district.

He has developed the Mega Mission project which has touched thousands of youth and their families throughout the Caribbean.

At the 2009 graduation of the University of the Southern Caribbean Pastor Dottin was awarded an honorary degree for his outstanding work in the areas of community service and rescuing youth in crisis.

In 2013, he was appointed by Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar to be a member of the Child Protection Task Force and is currently involved in major inter-faith initiatives designed to minister to hurting and depressed families.
