Peridot Foundation hosts anti-violence talk Nov. 27   | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Peridot Foundation will be hosting an event at the Orange Grove Mall parking lot on Union Road in Cole Bay, next to Health Care Laboratory St. Maarten, from 7:30 to 9:30pm November 27 in observance of International Day for the Awareness of Eradication of Violence Against Women and Children.

Keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Fey van der Dijs, who will address the audience on the theme “Recognising the effects of stress on women and hormonal changes.”

“Every woman has a story to tell. Therefore, this year the United Nations’ chosen theme ‘#hear me too’ is very appropriate,” Van der Dijs said.

Peridot Foundation said in a press release that the event will be interactive following the presentation by the keynote speaker.

November 25 will be the official starting date of “16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign” – International day for the elimination of violence against women that binds government and civic society to organise actions to end violence against women and girls all over the globe.

This year’s theme chosen by the United Nations is “Orange the world #hear me too.” The theme is meant to enhance and continue the promotion of dialogue on the matter of violence against women and girls. The colour orange is the colour unifying observance activities around the world.

“The increase in relational violence and violence in general in our community has not gone unnoticed by our foundation. Unfortunately, this trend was expected to increase as mentioned in earlier statements made in December 2017 after the passing of Hurricane Irma. Peridot Foundation expresses its heartfelt condolences to all victims of abuse in all shapes and forms,” Peridot Foundation founder Gracita Arrindell said.
