PHILIPSBURG–Carnival troupe Survivors announced on Tuesday that the annual Children’s Balloon parade, which is usually set two weekends before the start of Carnival in April, has been cancelled. Troupe coordinator Jasmine Philips issued a short press statement saying it has been cancelled, but did not mention the reason behind the sudden move.
Philips said the Balloon Parade will be back for 2018 with a grand celebration in light of its fifth anniversary. She is one of the Carnival pioneers who was honoured this year by St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF).
Philips did state in the press release that Survivors will take part in this year’s Children’s Parade on April 9. Costumes will be on display from Monday, March 13.
