PHILIPSBURG–A number of persons gathered in Philipsburg on Friday evening for the Philipsburg Alive Block Party III.
The event, which was a production of the Philipsburg Promotional Board (PPB), has grown since the first one was held and for the first time included part of Back Street, Front Street, Kerksteeg and Boardwalk Boulevard.
The Philipsburg Alive Block Parties are geared towards enhancing foot traffic for afternoon shopping in Philipsburg and revitalising the nightlife in the country’s capital.
The event included what PPB called “extreme shopping” where a number of stores on Back Street and Front Street from Ballerina Jewelry store all the way up to Longchamp on Front Street and the same distance along Back Street remained open for an hour longer than usual. The extreme shopping was being done in collaboration with the Indian Merchants Association (IMA) and its President Damu Rawtani. A number of stores and shops participated in the extended shopping hour until around 7:00pm.
The event also included entertainment of dancing and music; casinos open for gambling; a “Vendors’ Galleria Fun Zone” at Pastorie Alley and Kerksteeg; Funtopia’s stilt-walkers; and a trolley train, which offered complimentary rides to shoppers and attendees along Front Street and Back Street, amongst other things.
